Engineering and Infrastructure Department is responsible to ensure that Monash Health facilities, buildings & infrastructure assets are managed and maintained at appropriate standards for critical health services delivery. We are responsible for a range of capital/minor works projects, infrastructure and assets replacement programs. We are responsible to ensure all our buildings, facilities & infrastructure are built & maintained to meet all relevant mandatory statutory regulations, codes, standards & guidelines.

About the Role

Working with the Leading Hand Electrician, Maintenance/Operations/Facilities Coordinators, Engineering & Building Services department, external Consultants, Contractors, Engineering Managers and relevant stakeholders, this position has key electrical infrastructure maintenance responsibilities for the Engineering Services, mechanical and electrical plant and infrastructure across Monash Health facilities.

This will be a pivotal role, assisting with developing and implementing all aspects of the Monash Health asset management/maintenance strategies that will enable the facilities to be operated and maintained in a timely, cost effective manner.

This is a hands on position that will require an A Grade electrician with analytical skills, creativity and innovation to respond to electrical maintenance issues in an operational health facility with minimal impact on the provision of health care services.

The position will be required to participate in the MH Engineering department after hour’s electrical on call rosters.

The incumbent may be required to work Saturdays, Sundays and public Holidays depending on the demands of the facilities. 

More About The Role:

  • This hands on role encompasses the inspection, repair and diagnosis of electrical faults with hospital plant and equipment to ensure it’s safe, reliable and efficient operation
  • Electrical installation work will be required.
  • Assist with the effective management and operation of the electrical LV infrastructure operations and maintenance.
  • Assist with the effective management of the programmed planned maintenance regime for the electrical infrastructure and assets.
  • Manage reactive and planned maintenance requests using BEIMS/PULSE.
  • Assist with writing technical specifications, scopes, tendering and procure services within MH policies and guidelines when requested.
  • Assist with effective contract management & contractor conformance with contract requirements & OHS legislation.
  • Become actively involved and support the engineering managers to deliver facilities management services across Monash Health facilities when requested.
  • Maintain a regular cycle of risk identification, assessment and mitigation strategies.
  • Provide advice regarding other key areas of planning, generate ideas and provide innovative solutions to enhance delivery of maintenance and electrical services.
  • As a member of the Engineering Electrical team the position will actively lead and promote the Vision, Mission and values of Monash Health, be customer focused and participate in the development and review of the Engineering Services strategic plan when requested.

  • Observe safe working practices and as far as you are able, protect your own and others’ health and safety.
  • Complete all necessary personal training and professional development requirements.
  • Participate in annual performance development discussions with your manager and complete all mandatory training and compliance activity.

What You Need:

Qualifications/ registrations/ licences:

  • An A Class electrical license is required.
  • A High Voltage Electrical Equipment Operator Authority licence (not mandatory however training to achieve this licence would be expected to be completed in a timely manner).
  • A high degree of competency in the application of the relevant Australian Standards, Building Codes, Essential Services Regulations and other statutory, regulatory and OH&S legislation.
  • EWP License preferred
  • Working with Children Card

Technical skills/ knowledge / experience:

  • The incumbent will have previous maintenance experience preferably in hospitals, although this is not mandatory.
  • Good technical knowledge, experience and skills
  • Ability to understand & interpret drawings and technical specifications
  • Good communication skills with ability to work with diverse stakeholders
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills and strong solution orientation
  • Experience using CMMS
