Bass Coast Health (BCH) is a rapidly growing service that has almost completed a significantly expanded Emergency Department with 28 treatment spaces, complemented by contemporary equipment and workspaces.

We will consider fractional, full time and VMO FACEMS who are interested in delivering high quality and safe services from BCH.

The emergency department has annual presentations of around 17,000, with 20% being paediatric and an overall admission rate of approximately 25%. Wonthaggi Emergency Department, provide telephone/telehealth support to our single doctor at Urgent Care Centre (UCC) in Cowes on Phillip Island as required. The UCC sees approximately 10,000 patients annually, predominantly with lower acuity conditions. The inpatient units comprise of an acute medical ward, elective surgery day admissions, geriatrics and rehabilitation, day infusion centre with oncology/haematology services, obstetrics, haemodialysis and Hospital in the Home.

BCH works collaboratively with Alfred Health and Monash Health and supports the Junior Medical Staff (JMS) rotation in Emergency Department. BCH also work with Austin Health and their ACEM trainees.

The FACEM, Emergency Medicine is responsible for the assessment and treatment of patients and providing clinical leadership to ensure best practice outcomes for patients and staff of the ED as well as supervision, training and education of medical students, interns, HMOS, Emergency Registrars, CMOs and other medical team members as rostered. The role will require close liaison with the Nurse Unit Managers in the Emergency Department and Inpatient Units.

The FACEM, Emergency Medicine is accountable for:

1. Ensure BCH ED meets and exceeds NEAT targets including off stretcher KPI’s

2. Provide clinical leadership to ensure safe, quality care is provided to patients

3. Implement quality improvement activities in Emergency Medicine which will improve clinical outcomes

4. Provide support, supervision, mentoring and peer support processes to JMS and facilitate a just learning environment

5. Take responsibility and deliver on a clinical Support portfolio as agreed with the Clinical Director of Emergency Medicine

6. Ensure the efficient use of resources which will enable the ED to grow revenue and maintain expenditure at budgeted level
