About Eastern Health

Eastern Health is one of Melbourne’s largest public health services. We are a values-based organisation committed to research and teaching, and have strong affiliations with Australia’s top universities. We provide a range of emergency, surgical, medical and general healthcare services, including maternity, palliative care, mental health, drug and alcohol, residential care, community health and state-wide specialist services throughout Melbourne’s eastern suburbs, to people and communities that are diverse in culture, age, socio-economic status, population and healthcare needs.

About the role

Eastern Health has permanent opportunities for passionate, experienced and agile Critical Care Registered Nurses (CCRNs) and Registered Nurses (RNs) across its three Emergency Departments (EDs) at Angliss, Box Hill and Maroondah Hospitals. You will be a valued member of a highly dedicated, multi-disciplinary team incorporating medical, nursing, clerical and allied health professionals.  We pride ourselves on going above and beyond to provide our patients with timely access to high quality care. You will be supported by a team of experienced clinical educators and a strong, cohesive leadership team. With a strong commitment to research and teaching, we offer regular in-service days, and our online learning platform, iLearn, holds a wealth of information to assist you with your ongoing learning and development.

When applying, you will need to nominate your preferred ED location. You will also have the opportunity to work across multiple EDs (roster dependent) which will provide you with the unique exposure to a broader range of presentations and service delivery.

About our EDs

Angliss Emergency Department is a mixed ED providing care for approximately 42,000 adult and paediatric patients, annually averaging 120 patients per day. Our presentations include O&G, paediatrics, cardiac, mixed general medical, surgical and mental health. The ED compromises 23 acute cubicles including 2 resuscitation bays, an 8 bed adult short stay unit, and an 8 bed purpose built separate paediatric acute/short stay unit. Angliss hospital recently opened a new ICU and the ED team work closely with our ICU colleagues to provide comprehensive patient care. We are a friendly, supportive, highly motivated team that put patients first. We are a social group and frequently organise social activities outside of the work environment, including weekends away, hiking trips, meet ups at the beach to walk dogs, and international lunch days.

Box Hill

Box Hill Emergency Department cares for over 70,000 patients annually, with an average of 195 presentations per day including O&G, paediatrics, neurology, cardiac, general medicine, renal, surgical and mental health. Together with the Intensive Care Unit, Box Hill ED staff perform Extracorporeal Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (ECPR).  We are one of only 3 Victorian hospitals that give our patients this opportunity. We also have a close working relationship with Ambulance Victoria. We have amazing opportunities for staff to be involved in new research projects. We are a cohesive unit; our team loves coming to work. We are a diverse and gender-friendly team. We place importance on our self-care and wellbeing; we hold weekly meditation sessions and have an active social club.

The Emergency Department at Maroondah Hospital cares for approximately 60,000 patients per year, averaging 165 presentations per day.  Presentations include critically unwell patients requiring immediate stabilisation as well as a significant proportion of paediatric presentations. Departmental resources include 35 treatment spaces, including 3 resuscitation rooms, dedicated paediatric and fast track treatment areas, and a 20 bed combined adult and paediatric Short Stay Unit.  We are also excited that the Maroondah Hospital Emergency Department has commenced planning for a dedicated paediatric Emergency zone and paediatric Short Stay Unit.
