The Role

We are looking for Enrolled Nurses to work with Monash Health employees as Respirator Fit Testers.

Being part of the Respiratory Protection Program and working under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse, you will be responsible for ensuring Monash Health employees are tested for the fit of Filtering Facepiece Respirators (FFRs).

Following your completion of a training program, your role will have responsibility to ensure:

  • testing protocols and records are maintained

  • support is provided to employees in appropriate FFR selection

  • validity of test results

  • that invalid test results are recognised

  • that equipment is in working order, cleaning and maintained

  • that you escalate any issues or concerns as required

With a high level of attention to detail, you will:

  • conduct fit testing of Respiratory Protective Equipment and FFRs according to procedures

  • support employees' choice of available respirator selection and that they understand fit test results

  • provide information on relevant Monash Health Respiratory Protective Equipment including correct use and guidance for prevention of injuries to employees fit tested

  • ensure equipment is:

    • kept clean according to procedures;

    • calibrated according to manufacturer's instructions; and

    • operated within designed parameters and procedures.

  • support recording and data maintenance of fit test processes and equipment maintenance

  • maintain current knowledge of organisational Respiratory Protective Equipment

  • understand respiratory exposure risks to both yourself and others

In this 12 month fixed term contract your flexible availability is key to being rostered across seven  days per week (Monday - Sunday), with shifts spanning from 7.30am to 10.30pm.  We can consider candidates who can work 0.6 EFT (three days per week) up to full time EFT.  As you will work across various Monash Health sites, a valid driver’s licence is essential.

You are a dynamic Enrolled Nurse. With a genuine passion and interest in this unique opportunity you will commit to:

  • working in accordance with all relevant Occupational Health and Safety, Infection Prevention & Respiratory Protection Program procedures

  • ensuring you work within the supervision and delegation Enrolled Nurse requirements, and escalating to a Registered Nurse and/or the Respiratory Protection Program Administrator when required

  • participating in an annual fit tester competency assessment

  • being able to work in/wear PPE for considerable lengths of time

What you need


  • Demonstrated recent experience as an EN

  • Current AHPRA registration

  • Australian working rights

  • Valid Driver's licence

Highly regarded:

  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment - TAE40116 

  • Respiratory Nursing and/or Respiratory Protective Equipment experience 

  • Understanding of the Australian/New Zealand Standards specifically in relation to; AS/NZS 1715:2009 & AS/NZS 1716:2012 

  • Understanding of the international Standard specifically: ISO 16975-3:2017-09: Respiratory protective devices — Selection, use and maintenance — Part 3:Fit-testing procedures
