The position:


The Transition to Specialty Practice (Mental Health) Program based at the Royal Children’s Hospital – Banksia Ward, provides Enrolled Nurses with the opportunity to develop required knowledge, skills and attitude to transition from general nursing to mental health speciality practice. Aligning with the RCH vision and values, this program strives for better mental health and wellbeing for adolescents, families/carers and communities.


The Banksia Ward is a 16 bed acute adolescent inpatient ward that delivers mental health care to consumers aged 12 to 18 years of age. The Banksia Ward strives to deliver excellent, trauma informed, evidence based mental health care in the least restrictive environment. This includes delivering timely care, with a focus on building family and community supports that aid a safe and timely discharge for the young person. 


We are seeking nurses who have a passion for working in this challenging, yet extremely rewarding area of mental health nursing. Utilising your contemporary nursing skills, you will work closely with the team, whilst contributing to excellent care of young people and their families during their stay with us.

To be successful in the role, you will have:



  • Current registration as a Enrolled Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) administered through the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)

  • Minimum 2 years experience post initial Nursing qualification.

  • Evidence of on-going professional development as reflected in Professional Practice Portfolio.
