Role: Epidemiologist, Locations (Role until - 30 June 2021)

Position Summary:

  • Provide epidemiological support and advice to the COVID-19 Division teams through investigating links between cases, and transmission dynamics in clusters.
  • Maintain situational awareness of evolving epidemiological issues pertaining to current cases, outbreaks and contacts.


  • Outbreak Epidemiologists work closely with the embedded Outbreak Surveillance Officer , data manager, and Pod Lead.
  • Conduct epidemiological investigation of cases and contacts and outbreaks.
  • Under supervision from VPS5 Epidemiologist and Location Pod Manager, u ndertake epidemiolog ical analysis of outbreaks including preparing appropriate visualisations of the outbreak evolution.
  • Document these findings in routine outbreak reports and other documentation maintained by the team including in PHESS and TRIM TRIM.
  • Provide regular updates on key epidemiological insights to the Location Pod Manager and to CCOM team teams.
  • Attend relevant Outbreak Management Team meetings and other meetings to stay updated on developments, provide updates to the team on your findings, and provide updates to the Location Pod Manager
  • Investigate and document findings on specific issues as they arise, as requested by the Location Pod Manager
  • Maintain situational awareness of the evolving epidemiological issues relevant to the jurisdiction that is the remit of your pod . Apply this to your investigations and update CCOM and Intel teams of relevant issues when appropriate.
  • Work with the embedded Outbreak Surveillance Officer to ensure timely creation of exposure sites and linkage to all relevant cases and contacts to support the work of the CCOM team, including updating relevant documentation in TRIM and Teams.
  • Provide useful updates and handover to the next epidemiologist supporting the CCOM team in the 7 day 2 shifts per day roster.
  • Actively participate in Epidemiology Evidence Synthesis Unit meetings
