The Department of Health plays a critical role in the Victorian health system and is responsible for shaping it to meet the health needs of Victorians into the future. The Chief Analytics Officer is the leading advocate for enabling data analytics across the Department of Health and the broader sector to drive innovation, efficiency, and continuous learning. This is delivered through authentic people leadership and stakeholder engagement that generates enthusiasm, commitment, and capacity building.  

Reporting to the CEO, Dr Lance Emerson, you will deliver outcomes focused analytics and insights that inform better decision-making, across the sector and represent the department across various external networks. This role has strategic oversight of the Centre for Victorian Data Linkage, Analytics Strategy Unit and the Data and Analytics Fellowship program. The role also oversees analytic strategy and support, and system performance, safety, and quality functions.

Success requires an outward focused leader that brings lateral thinking and promotes new ways of working, with the ability to ‘join the dots' for stakeholders and provides sector wide thought leadership and continuous improvement.

You will have proven senior leadership of analytics teams in, for example, government, health sector, educational and research institutes, and/or the private sector. A relevant undergraduate degree is required, however a master's degree or PhD in analytics, data science, biostatistics, public health, epidemiology, informatics, or related field is preferred.

As it is an essential element of any role within the department that employees be able to attend work onsite and to do so safely, employees are required to be up-to-date with their vaccinations against COVID-19 as a condition of their employment.
