EXPRESSION OF INTEREST: INTENSIVE CARE PARAMEDICS

As an integral part of a patient health care team, the role of the Mobile Intensive Care Ambulance (MICA) Paramedic is to provide pre-hospital care and treatment for sick and injured people through attempting to stabilise and/or improve the patient condition in preparation for and during transportation to hospital. 

Ambulance Victoria (AV) is seeking expressions of interest for Qualified ICP to MICA and is open to suitably experienced Intensive Care Paramedics or Advanced Life Support Paramedics who hold a suitable qualification for opportunities throughout the State of Victoria. 

To be eligible, you will hold either a Postgraduate (Australian Qualifications Framework level 8) qualification in Intensive or Critical Care or equivalent and/or be practicing in a Jurisdictional Ambulance Service (JAS) in Australia or New Zealand as an ICP.

Please note, if you are progressed to the OSCE and Online Behavioural Interview must remain available to present between Monday 8 November 2021 to Friday 19 November 2021. Please note the OSCE must be attended in person. The onus will be on each applicant to ensure they are able to be present and complete any required assessment or interviews in their own time.

Applicants will need to be aligned to one of four Streams: 

1.            Intensive Care Paramedics

  • Practicing as an ICP with a Jurisdictional Ambulance Service (JAS)
  • Holds equivalence of practice (EOP) equal to AV MICA Paramedic and;
  •  a Post Graduate Diploma Specialist Paramedic Practice; or
  • a Post Graduate Diploma Emergency Health (Paramedicine); or
  • equivalent (AQF Level 8) 

2.            Intensive Care Paramedics

  • Practicing as an ICP with a Jurisdictional Ambulance Service (JAS)
  • Holds equivalence of practice (EOP) equal to AV MICA Paramedic and;
  • Be willing to complete the Graduate Diploma Specialist Paramedic Practice under a scholarship with AV 

3.            Intensive Care Paramedics

  • working with a Jurisdictional Ambulance Service (JAS)
  • Be willing to complete the Graduate Diploma Specialist Paramedic Practice under a scholarship with AV whilst working as an ALS paramedic 

4.            Advanced Life Support Paramedics

(for entry into AV's MICA Intern Trainee Program)

  • working with a Jurisdictional Ambulance Service (JAS)
  • with a Post Graduate Diploma Specialist Paramedic Practice; or
  • with a Post Graduate Diploma Emergency Health (Paramedicine); or
  • equivalent (AQF Level 8).

Eligibility

To Applicants to have the following:

  • A minimum of 24 Months full time equivalent on road clinical experience as an ICP for Streams 1, 2 and 3 or as an Advanced Life Support Paramedic for Stream 4.
  • Have an Authority to Practice with their current employer.
  • General registration as a Paramedic with the Paramedicine Board of Australia or be able to achieve this registration prior to commencement. 

NB: Applicants who do not possess an AQF level 8 qualification must also meet the entry requirements to study the Graduate Diploma Specialist Paramedic Practice at Monash University. These include:

  • A minimum of two years' experience in the field of paramedic practice post qualification at the time of commencement of the Graduate Diploma Specialist Paramedic Practice  
  • A Bachelor of Paramedicine (or equivalent) with at least a pass (50%) average or qualifications and experience approved by the faculty
  • Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra) or equivalent accredited professional registration body. 

Successful applicants will be required to make a Statutory Declaration and undertake an Australian National Criminal Check in conjunction with other pre-employment checks. Additionally, you will need to o provide a current Working with Children Check and a recent Driving History Report from all relevant states/territories
