Family/Consumer Peer Support Worker

North West Area Mental Health Service (NWAMHS) is committed to working with consumers during their recovery by offering holistic and evidence-based treatment, which is inclusive of family/carers and provided by clinicians with well-developed skills.

The IPU Family/Carer Peer Support Worker will work with families/carers of the consumers admitted to the Adult Inpatient Unit.

Your new role:

• Supporting families/carers to establish/re-establish themselves in a Inpatient/community environment, including helping them access the range of community supports they need;


• Engaging families/carers in orientation to the service and improve their experience of care;


• Supporting families/carers in engaging with the treating team


• Assist in staff building an understanding of the effectiveness of the role of the family/carer peer workforce in clinical mental health services

About you:

• A true team member with confidence and desire to share your wisdom, knowledge and experience.


• Lived experience of mental illness is an essential prerequisite for this role and a good understanding of peer support frameworks is essential.


• Demonstrate compassion and resilience, provide direct peer support and information to family/carers as they navigate inpatient unit setting
