About the role
South West Healthcare is seeking a suitably qualified and experienced health professional (Registered Nurse, Occupational Therapist, Psychologist or Social Worker) to join our Community Mental Health Service in the role of Family Violence Advisor.
The Family Violence Advisor will provide expertise and support for clinicians within the mental health sector to identify and respond to family violence with their clients, whether they are experiencing family violence or perpetuating family violence.
This will occur through the continued process of strengthening networks and collaboration between agencies and sectors; enhance referral pathways to provide a more co-ordinated and collaborative approach; increase capacity within the mental health and alcohol and other drugs (AOD) sectors through access to specialist family violence expertise and advice to identify, recognise and respond to family violence. The position will also facilitate earlier recognition of, and responses to family violence situations for patients/clients of mental health and AOD services and continue to enhance the quality and consistency of the service response to victims, survivors and perpetrators of family violence.
This permanent position is 40 hours per fortnight.
What you bring
You must have appropriate qualifications and registration or eligibility for registration with AHPRA and/or the relevant Board or Association as a Registered Nurse, Occupational Therapist, Psychologist or Social Worker. Prior experience in mental health practices within a mental health setting is desirable.
It would be advantageous for you to have an ability to articulate and apply a practice framework focused on engagement and assessment, including knowledge and experience of working with diverse individuals and communities as well as risk assessment frameworks and the Best Interests Case Practice Model in the context of family violence; hold knowledge and understanding of family violence; and have demonstrated experience in consultation with key stakeholders and relevant service sectors.
The successful applicant will also ideally have an ability to engage with services working with perpetrators of family violence for the purpose of service linkage and referral along with a working understanding of the relevant legislations and how it impacts family violence.
