About the branch

The Operations Directorate is responsible for the delivery of initiatives, programs and services. On-ground works and services will conserve environments, protect culture and heritage, manage visitor facilities and improve opportunities and support fire and emergency management.

The Western Basalt District comprises a diversity of cultural and environmental assets including the Brisbane Ranges National Park, Lederberg and Werribee Gorge State Parks, You Yangs Regional Park, Macedon Regional Park, Steiglitz Historic Park, Serendip Sanctuary, Lake Connewarre State Game Reserve, Mt Buangor State Park, Enfield State Park, Hepburn Regional Park and numerous other reserves. The District manages over 50,000 hectares with over 900,000 visitors per year, offering a range of passive and active recreational opportunities in diverse settings. This position will be primarily supporting the Ballarat area and be based at Macedon Regional Park.

About the role and your responsibilities:  

As a Field Service Officer, you will deliver in park services as directed by the manager to enable efficient and effective delivery at a district level in accordance with the Regional Action Plan. You will be accountable for the delivery of on the ground works including, but not limited to, maintenance of assets, infrastructure, and facilities; and the field delivery of environmental projects. You will actively participate as part of a team to deliver specified in park services including tracks and trails, terrestrial and marine asset renewal, environmental works and general maintenance.

In this role you will undertake Fire and Emergency response activities in accordance with requirements and level of training as well as be accountable for personal performance and demonstrate a strong personal work ethic. You will participate in a inclusive team environment to ensure that the overall success of the team is considered to be an outcome of individual success. You will be adaptable and flexible to on the ground service requirements in order to ensure superior park management services are achieved at all times.

To be successful for this role you will need:

  • Certificate or Diploma in Natural Resource Management and/or equivalent experience in a similar field.
  • Plant, chainsaw and machinery operation experience.
  • Trade related skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in self-management.
  • A current employee Working with Children Check
