About the branch

The Operations Directorate is responsible for the delivery of initiatives, programs and services. On-ground works and services will conserve environments, protect culture and heritage, manage visitor facilities and improve opportunities and support fire and emergency management. The Directorate resources will support environmental, social and economic outcomes for rural, regional and urban communities.

The Grampians-Gariwerd Area is located within the South-west District of the Western Region.  It includes key protected areas such as the Grampians National Park, Black Range State Park, Ararat Regional Park, Bunjil Scenic Reserve and numerous significant Nature Conservation and Wildlife Reserves.

About the role and your responsibilities:  

As a Field Service Officer - Grampians Peak Trail, you will deliver in park services as directed by the Manager to enable efficient and effective delivery at a district level in accordance with the Regional Action Plan. You will efficiently and effectively deliver on-ground works as directed, to ensure that built infrastructure and visitor facilities, including the Grampians Peaks Trail, are maintained to the highest standards. The primary focus of your position is to undertake cleaning and maintenance at campsites, respond to damage caused by tree fall and storm events and maintain vegetation and drainage infrastructure as required.

In this role you will also actively participate in a team environment. You will participate as an active team member of the Grampians Area to ensure program objectives are met and that tasks are carried out effectively, efficiently and in a safe manner. You will be adaptable and flexible to on the ground service requirements to ensure superior park management as well as be accountable will be for personal performance and demonstrate a strong personal work ethic.

To be successful for this role you will need:

  • Certificate or Diploma in Natural Resource Management and/or equivalent experience in a similar field.
  • Plant, chainsaw and machinery operation experience.
  • Demonstrated practical skills in the maintenance and operation of machinery, small equipment and tools.
  • Demonstrated skills in the maintenance and construction of a range of park facilities, including, signs, campgrounds, fences and walking tracks.
  • A current employee Working with Children Check
