An education support class position at this range will perform tasks that are carried out in accordance with guidelines, accepted practice, and school policy under supervision and direction. This may include coordination of other education support class staff within the work area or educational program.
An education support class position supports the educational services being provided to students but must not include duties of a teacher as defined in clause 2.6.1 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic) or its successor. Supervision of students can be required individually or in groups up to 4 in controlled circumstances and where the responsibility for students remains clearly with a teacher.
Certification and/or qualifications of up to three years can be required at this level (noting that Registered Nurse is not included at this level, the first level for which is Level 1 range 3).
A role at this range may include:
An education support class position at this range commencing at the base will initially be limited to undertaking routine tasks that are carried out under close supervision and direction. Work that carries some degree of independence will generally involve a limited number of tasks performed on a regular basis where priorities are clear, procedures are well established, and direction is readily available. Subject to any specific qualification and/or training requirement, an education support class employee employed in this range may be progressively required to undertake coordination, specialised student/teacher support tasks, or technical tasks as experience in the role is gained.

The position you are applying for is with the Victoria University Secondary College Flexible in-school program. This learning program is delivered within a main campus of a school to support our students enrolled who are at risk of disengagement.
We are a multicampus school and our in-school flexible program has a its own modern setting at our Brimbank Campus.
It is an open plan space with classrooms and offices, it includes a kitchenette, access to the onsite gym and kitchen facilities for teaching food technology. You would be working in a small team which has a focus on developing students with issues around learning and connections to school.
Our students will range from year 8 to year 10 and will need modified curriculum and support based on their individual learning needs. There will be a strong focus on reading and writing at our flexible in-school program. We use a blend of the Berry Street model for connections and learning stamina which is supported by our instructional teaching model. This allows students to transition back to the home campus with consistent practices at both sites.
We are a PLC link school and have a strong PLT culture that drives improvement based on our data. The in-school flexible program will have its own PLT that will include all staff working at this site. It is an expectation that we all contribute to continual improvement through our PLT to provide quality teaching and resources.

Victoria University Secondary College is a multi-campus school comprising a Junior Campus, Senior Campus with a Trade Training Centre. The college has approximately 1010 students from years 7 to 12 and services the residential area of Cairnlea, Deer Park, and environs in the western suburbs of Melbourne.
