Job Description

The Role
We’re on the lookout for an enthusiastic and detail focused Government Liaison Officer. Reporting to the Chief of Staff, you will play a pivotal role within our organisation, acting as the highly dependable link across all parts of our diverse portfolio.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Assist the CEO, Executive Director of Corporate Affairs, and Director of External Relations in facilitating seamless interactions with the Minister's office, government departments, and our internal teams.
  • Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders to develop materials such as summaries, briefing notes, and documents related to government affairs for Development Victoria projects.
  • Foster strong relationships with key external stakeholders (clients, government departments, agencies) to maintain clear communication.
  • Provide guidance and support to DV teams regarding Department and Ministerial office preferences and priorities.
  • Liaise with Ministerial Offices and DV's CEO/ED for meeting content.
  • Attend Ministerial meetings when necessary and coordinate meeting actions with DV team members.
  • Oversee and coordinate the Ministerial briefing process, including document management.
  • Coordinate Cabinet and Sub-Committee submissions with project teams and responsible departments.
  • Manage responses to Parliamentary Questions related to DV projects.
  • Handle Ministerial correspondence requests.
  • Coordinate regular project reporting and updates.

About You

Desired Experience/Qualifications Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in public policy, public relations or similar
  • Extensive experience in government relations and communications, stakeholder relations.
  • Demonstrated capability to build and manage positive relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, including within government, and work with a wide range of people to achieve desired outcomes. 
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills and experience in the preparation of timely, clear, and concise presentations, briefing papers and correspondence. 
  • Demonstrated experience in managing sensitive issues with key stakeholders with integrity and discretion, providing timely analysis and advice.  
  • Demonstrated understanding of Victorian government operations and communications requirements. 
  • A proactive approach to identifying opportunities and risks, and an ability to identify innovative solutions to complex problems.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage with stakeholders at all levels on complex, confidential and sensitive matters, using tact and judgement.
  • High level organisational skills including the ability to coordinate tasks, meet tight deadlines, determine priorities, take initiative and work under limited direction
