  • Full Time, 24 months fixed term opportunity- 80 hours p/f (including ADO)

  • Senior scientist  (Grade 4) role to lead the Molecular Microbiology department

  • Based in Microbiology at The Royal Melbourne Hospital – City Campus

We are looking for a passionate and dedicated Grade 4 Scientist to join our Microbiology team in a senior scientific role with responsibility for leading day-to-day operation of the Molecular Microbiology laboratory.


 


Your opportunity:



  • Supervisory and management experience including demonstrated leadership skills, ability to work independently, process driven, ability to work to deadlines and achieve both team and individual goals.

  • Advanced experience in quality systems management, laboratory services and analytical methods.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Ensuring staff availability to maintain continuous laboratory service and if necessary participating in laboratory work.

  • Ensuring staff are adequately trained and competency is maintained.

  • In depth experience in molecular microbiology including developing and establishing diagnostic molecular tests and services.

  • Participating in research activities and supervising staff involved in research activities. The research activities can include, but not limited to, laboratory quality improvement projects, student research projects, and other collaborative scientific projects.

  • Ability to take accountability for all reasonable care to provide a safe working environment within the area of responsibility and ensure compliance with O,H&S Act, anti-discrimination, equal opportunity & other legislative requirements.

  • Participation in a regular roster, which include some weekends, evening or public holiday shifts

  • Ability to lead in a dynamic and constantly evolving department, flexibility and ability to adapt to change would be highly regarded

  • Experience in change management processes


Desirable experience:



  • Strong track record of implementing new technology

  • Postgraduate qualification in a relevant discipline.


About You:



  • Bachelor of Science or equivalent with appropriate specialisation in diagnostic microbiology.

  • At least 10 years experience in a microbiology laboratory environment with specialist experience and training in molecular microbiology.

  • Recognised scientific training and competence relevant to the position including appropriate knowledge and experience in quality systems, laboratory services and analytical methods.

  • Demonstrated commitment to workplace Occupational, Health and Safety.

  • Eligible working rights for Australia and New Zealand.
