About the branch

The Operations Directorate is responsible for the delivery of initiatives, programs and services. On-ground works and services will conserve environments, protect culture and heritage, manage visitor facilities and improve opportunities and support fire and emergency management. The Directorate resources will support environmental, social and economic outcomes for rural, regional and urban communities. Services will be delivered within the demands of the Directorate's Statewide fire and emergency role and in partnership with the community and other government agencies.

The Grampians-Gariwerd Area is located within the South-west District of the Western Region.  It includes key protected areas such as the Grampians National Park, Black Range State Park, Ararat Regional Park, Bunjil Scenic Reserve and numerous significant Nature Conservation and Wildlife Reserves.

About the role and your responsibilities:  

As the Grampians Peak Trail Crew Leader, you will efficiently and effectively deliver on-ground works as directed, to ensure that built infrastructure and visitor facilities, including the Grampians Peaks Trail, are maintained to the highest standards. The primary focus of your position is to undertake cleaning and maintenance at campsites, respond to damage caused by tree fall and storm events and maintain vegetation and drainage infrastructure as required.

You will be accountable for personal performance and mentoring of others particularly those supporting the Grampians Peak Trail.  In this role you will demonstrate a strong personal work ethic and actively participate, support and guide in a team environment ensuring that the overall success of the team is considered to be an outcome of individual success. You will actively participate in a team environment and will supervise staff to ensure project goals are achieved and services are provided in an effective and timely manner.  You will be adaptable and flexible to on the ground service requirements to ensure superior park management as well as be accountable for personal performance and demonstrate a strong personal work ethic.

To be successful for this role you will need:

  • Certificate or Diploma in Natural Resource Management and/or practical skills or experience in areas such as agriculture, engineering, mechanical, maintenance or building
  • Demonstrated skills in the maintenance and construction of a range of park facilities, including, signs, campgrounds, fences and walking tracks
  • Demonstrated experience with delivering work programs and assisting with project and contract management
  • A current employee Working with Children Check
