The Position 

Position Title:  Haematologist – Staff Specialist
Classification: HM33 – HM41 (Medical Specialist Year 1 to Year 9)
Salary per hour (exc. super): $126.25 to $173.59
Hours per fortnight: 76 (1 FTE)

Role Description

This is a joint appointment between Bendigo Health and Peter Mac. The position incumbent shall work 4 days per week for Bendigo Health and 1 day per week at Peter Mac. The purpose of this position is to help provide a haematology service to the Bendigo hospital which include oversite of inpatients, a consultancy service and outpatients as well as strategic development. 
The successful candidate will provide expert haematology care to inpatients, outpatients and participate in the consultancy service. The haematologist will assist in training and education, including the supervision of the haematology advanced trainee and other junior medical staff. Participation in governance, strategic planning and quality/risk activities is an essential part of the position.

The Team

The Bendigo Cancer Centre is a partnership between Bendigo Health and Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, which brings together Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, palliative care and surgical oncology. This is supported by a medical oncology registrar, trials fellow, haematology registrar, allied health, specialist nursing staff (including a haematology nurse coordinator and nurse practitioners), dedicated oncology pharmacists, clinical trials team, regular MDM collaboration and selected outreach clinics.

The Oncology Unit is a day-stay unit providing a wide range of chemotherapy, hormonal therapy, biological response modifiers, novel agents, and symptom urgent review clinic. Home-based Cancer Care (HBCC) is also delivered to selected patients. A purpose-build Wellness Centre and nurse-lead team is available to all haematology and oncology patients at BH.
