Head of Unit: Respiratory – The Royal Melbourne Hospital

• Contribute to the overall leadership and management of the Respiratory Department within the Royal Melbourne Hospital.


• Responsible and accountable for the delivery of high quality Respiratory clinical services, education and research within the Respiratory department, and within allocated resources.


• Provide strategic, operational and financial leadership and has ultimate responsibility for achieving agreed performance targets for the department.

The Royal Melbourne is one of Victoria’s largest hospitals providing a comprehensive range of health services including acute, sub-acute, general, and specialist medical services throughout inpatient and community based facilities. We are also a proud part of the world renowned Melbourne Biomedical Precinct, working in collaboration to advance research for continuous improvement of clinical care.

We are looking for passionate and dedicated individual to join our Respiratory team. This is a Part Time position, working 21 hours per fortnight. You will be based in Parkville which is recognised as the hub of Australia’s premier knowledge precinct. Your Opportunity:

• As the Department Head of Unit, provide operational, strategic and financial leadership of Respiratory and support the Respiratory Leadership Team.


• Foster research and education within Respiratory and within the overall Royal Melbourne Hospital framework for these two activities.


• Act as a mentor and advocate for Senior Medical Staff regarding clinical matters and professional  issues, and for other staff within the Royal Melbourne Hospital in matters relevant to the Respiratory Service

About You:

• Specialist Recognition as a Respiratory and Sleep Physician.


• Experience in a large Respiratory unit as a Physician


• Recognised as a leader in clinical services


• Leadership experience


• Demonstrated high level capability in financial and human resources management

Formal Qualifications:

• MBBS


• Fellowship of Royal Australasian College of Physicians (or equivalent) and compliance with Continuing Professional Development requirements.

Essential:

• Experience in the implementation of quality improvement, work practice reform and change within a large organisation.

Desirable:

• Post-graduate research or health services management qualification.
