About Us

Justice Health is a business unit of the Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS), and is responsible for health, mental health and alcohol and other drug (AOD) services in Victoria's prisons and Youth Justice centres.

Justice Health is also responsible for the delivery of rehabilitation services across the Youth Justice system. Justice Health:

  • sets the standards for the delivery of these services
  • monitors service delivery
  • and manages contracts with service providers (except for the contracts that relate to service provision in Victoria's three private prisons).

About the Role

Justice Health have a fixed term position until December 2021, working within the Health information Services Team.  The role, Health Information Administrative Officer will:

  • responds to requests for health information made under various legislative frameworks including Freedom of Information Act and the Health Records Act
  • responds to various Court Orders including by subpoena and warrant
  • contributes to the administrative activities of the Health Information Services team.

Some of the key duties of the role are to:

  • provide sound advice to departmental staff in relation to relevant procedures, ensuring issues are identified and managed and strict timelines are met
  • draft, regular and one-off, high quality correspondence to the applicants, internal and external stakeholders
  • respond to enquiries from staff, stakeholders and members of the public about access to health information and other FOI and privacy matters within the established guidelines and legislative frameworks
  • participate in the administration of Justice Health's obligations in relation to external processes, involving complex and challenging problems (e.g. Ombudsman reviews and complaints, subpoenas and Court hearings).

The Health Information Administrative Officer is responsible for registration of requests received by Justice Health and for the co-ordination and processing of requests for health information.

About You

As our ideal candidate, you will possess:

  • Excellent organisation and coordination skills in order to determine priorities, organise workloads and meet deadlines
  • Proven background working in an environment where timeliness and confidentiality are paramount
  • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook - email and diary management functions)
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build rapport and understand client needs
  • Adaptability with in house systems, such as the DJCS document management system (TRIM)
  • Health records experience is highly desirable.
