About us

Justice Health is a business unit within the Department of Justice & Community Safety responsible for the delivery of health services to persons currently serving in Victorian prisons and Youth Justice precincts. In Victoria, health services in both adult prisons and youth justice precincts are contracted to health service providers and Justice Health manages the service delivery provided by those health service providers.

Justice Health is also responsible for facilitating an integrated approach to health service planning and service delivery, leading health prevention and promotion activities, and facilitating the release of health information to community health care providers, legal representatives and individuals.

About the role

The Health Information Applications Data Engineer is responsible for undertaking analysis of both health and non-health data sets, and using this to inform and allow for the development of pipelines to undertake Extract Transform Load (ETL) activities to successfully transform and transport data into the Justice Health Data Warehouse Platform for use in a variety of reports.

Key accountabilities:

  • working with the Health Information Systems Support team and the Project teams to identify sources of information for configuration items and service related data and what can be captured and data feeds to be recorded for each item
  • providing expertise in the development of the database technologies managed by Health Information Systems Support
  • developing policies, processes, guidelines, products and tools for database services
  • working collaboratively with team members and other stakeholders in identifying appropriate configuration management strategies and plans to ensure Justice Health application products meets business requirements.

About you

In addition, as our ideal candidate you will have:

  • demonstrated experience with clinical health information systems
  • experience in the development and analysis of ETL's using Talend/SSIS
  • experience with visualisation and data presentation tools (Tableau/Power BI)
  • previous experience in database design (logical/physical) and data mining; and including database concepts.

A relevant database certification (MSSQL) is essential and ICT tertiary qualifications would be highly regarded.
