At least one (1) fixed-term Health, Safety and Wellbeing Specialist Grade 6.1 position (up to 24 months) is being offered in the Human Resources Branch, within the People, Culture and Capability Division, in Melbourne or Ballarat.

Health, Safety and Wellbeing Specialist – Human Resources Branch, Melbourne CBD or Ballarat – Fixed Term

  • At least 1 fixed-term role (up to 24 months)
  • Salary $120,692 plus 9.5% superannuation – VPS Grade 6.1
  • Based in Melbourne CBD or Ballarat

We administer a range of taxes, duties, levies, grants and subsidies on behalf of the Victorian Government. The revenue we collect funds essential services including health care, education and social infrastructure.

The role 

This newly created role will deliver a thorough framework for Work Health and Safety (WH&S) management and processes, developing the planning and execution of best practice strategies and applying them in line with the SRO's strategic goals, ensuring compliance with legislation and national standards for work health and safety.

Key responsibilities

Reporting to the Branch Manager, Human Resources, you will be responsible for:

  • The development of workplace, health and safety (WH&S) policies, guidelines and procedures.
  • The identification, monitoring and evaluation of WH&S matters and development of strategies to eliminate or minimise associated risks.
  • The preparation of reports for the senior leadership group as required in order to inform these areas of WH&S issues of concern.
  • The facilitation of a COVID-safe workplace for implementation across two offices, based on government frameworks.
  • The implementation and maintenance of an accident and injury reporting system and a management system for workers compensation and rehabilitation as required by law.

The ideal candidate

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • An extensive understanding of multiple workplace hazards and the detailed principles of their identification and analysis, along with a comprehensive understanding of WH&S risk management principles and their application in a complex, diverse setting.
  • Detailed knowledge of occupational health and safety (OH&S) legislation for WH&S compliance, workers compensation legislation, along with a detailed knowledge and understanding of emergency and critical management principles as they apply. 
  • Demonstrated people management skills to performance manage, motivate, mentor and train team members to achieve team/branch objectives.
