About the Role

Western Health has opportunities for HMOs to join us for our 2021 mid-year intake.

Rotations are currently available from August 2021 in a broad range of specialties including Paediatrics, Emergency Medicine, Psychiatry, Intensive Care, and medical sub-specialities such as Gastroenterology, Palliative Care, Subacute Care and Nephrology.  Rotations in other areas including Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Electronic Medical Record, Rehabilitation and Addiction Medicine will be available in 2022 for doctors commencing this year who continue at Western Health.

Applications from suitably qualified doctors will be considered to commence from August 2021 (or earlier by mutual agreement) for Full-Time, Part-Time or Job Share, with options for 3, 6, 12 or 18 month contract lengths.

The position is only available to medical practitioners who hold General Registration with AHPRA, and have at least 1 year of clinical experience within the Australian hospital system.

Western Health offers a supported training environment where Senior Medical Staff make an effort to know you personally. Junior doctors in the General HMO Stream are supported by a dedicated Director of Clinical Training (Dr Jonathan Kaufman) and Medical Education Officer (Ms Amy Busby). We have a dedicated weekly intern and HMO education program, simulation and workshops for junior doctors, hospital grand rounds and a broad range of unit-specific education sessions. The Western Centre for Health Research and Education (WCHRE) at the Sunshine Hospital campus is a purpose built teaching and research facility, including a state-of-the-art simulation centre.

Every effort will be made to provide rotations tailored to your career interests and training requirements, previous experience and demands of particular rotations. However this is not a guarantee as this is dependent on the group of successful applicants and final rotation preferences. All HMOs will complete one leave/night duty/relieving term over a 12 month period.

Position Requirements

If you wish to apply you must meet the Mandatory Criteria as noted below:

Australian Trained Medical Graduates: Must hold General Registration with AHPRA and have completed a minimum of 1 year full time medical employment post MBBS graduation (e.g PGY2 or above).

International Medical Graduates: Must hold General Registration with AHPRA. At least 2 years of full time medical employment in Australia is highly desirable.
