About Us:

As a service within the Department of Justice and Community Safety, Corrections Victoria develops and implements policies, programs, and services to ensure the safe and secure containment of prisoners, and that seek to rehabilitate offenders by addressing the underlying causes of offending behaviour.

Corrections Victoria manages some 50 Community Correctional Services locations across the state and is responsible for managing Victoria's 11 public prisons and overseeing the contracts relating to the management of two privately operated prisons. In doing so, Corrections Victoria delivers a safe and secure corrections system that actively engages offenders and the community to promote positive behaviour change.

H.M. Prison Dhurringile is a minimum-security prison for men, with a focus on preparing offenders for their release back into the community.

About the role:

Industry Officers are responsible for the management and delivery of specific functions within prison industries.

Some of your duties will include:

  • Oversee the efficient and effective management of the industry
  • Ensure equipment is maintained in good working order, maintain general cleanliness of the work site, and ensure that proper directions are given to prisoners concerning industrial health and safety
  • Supervise and control prisoner workers employed in the industry

The role requires leadership, maturity, sound judgement, confidence in decision making, with developed capabilities to coach, mentor and motivate prisoners.

About you:

As an ideal candidate, you will possess:

  • Qualifications or experience in Vegetable Farming, including plant/soil nutrition and disease and pest management
  • Sound knowledge of OH&S requirements relevant to horticulture
  • Applicants must have completed the Prison Officer Pre-Training course or be willing to undertake and successfully complete the next available course
  • ACUP certificate (preferred but not essential)
  • A strong ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of audiences, and appropriately tailor communication to the audience's needs.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

Therefore, there is a requirement that all DJCS employees be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 in order to undertake duties outside of their homes.

At interview stage and prior to commencement of employment with the department, you will need to provide evidence that you are vaccinated against COVID-19 with three doses of a COVID-19 vaccine. 

Upon commencement of employment with the department you will be required to provide evidence that you have an up-to-date vaccination status within the timelines specified by the department into the DJCS Service Portal. This includes evidence of three doses of a COVID-19 vaccine required by the department (from time to time).

  2. Your immunisation history statement (available via your myGov account)

Other documentation outside the above will not be accepted as evidence of having received your COVID-19 vaccine doses.
