About Us
Monash Health is the largest public health service in Victoria, employing over 22,000 people across a range of specialties.
P Block is a 31 Bed unit which sits within the Adult Bed Based Service under the Mental Health program at Monash Medical Centre Clayton. The service provides Short term inpatient management and treatment during an acute phase of Mental illness, through until management within the community is a safe option. With the provision of a range of therapeutic interventions and programs, both patients and families are able to learn about the impact of illness and explore ways to better manage within their environment with coping strategies as they move toward recovery.
About the Role
The Senior Mental Health Nursing Clinician position is a senior clinical mental health role, following a clinical pathway which is separately aligned to the ANM role which follows a management pathway. The position has been developed to provide a clinical pathway to a higher grade that recognises skills and experience that currently isn’t available within the acute inpatient unit. This position forms part of the IPU Nursing Leadership Team and enhances the depth of clinical nursing expertise within the unit.
The Grade 3 will provide expert nursing assessment, coordination and care of acutely unwell consumers experiencing mental illness within the psychiatric inpatient unit. They will be assigned a clinical patient load and will work directly with consumers in the inpatient unit and will be responsible for instituting a range of measures to stabilize client’s psychiatric and physical symptoms, as well as conducting complex group therapies, coordinating various treatment components and liaising with other professional staff. They will provide support in developing the clinical skills of more junior staff and providing highly experienced clinical input to the team.
In addition they will support the Nurse Manager with quality activities focused on care coordination and contemporary best practice evidence based outcomes for consumers admitted to the Inpatient Unit. This clinician will be able to provide senior clinical support to junior staff, engage in preceptorship, complex care planning decisions and on occasion to fulfil shift leadership responsibilities if no ANM is on shift. They will also hold and engage in portfolio work as well as contribute to project implementation on the unit.
