What You Will Be Doing
Peninsula Health’s Intensive Care Unit is a 13-bed level III facility based out of Frankston Hospital (Peninsula Health’s Acute Care Site) with affiliations to both Monash and Deakin Universities. The unit is staffed by 8 intensivists, all Fellows of the College of Intensive Care Medicine and is accredited as a C12 unit by the College. There are 14 registrars, most of them are registered with the College including 4 advanced and 8 basic trainees. Frankston Hospital ICU is a high acuity ICU with a broad general case mix, excluding cardiac and neurosurgery. However the trainees are provided with an opportunity to gain cardiac and just recently neurosurgical experience via rotating to Peninsula Private Hospital ICU. The College of Intensive Care Medicine has accredited Peninsula Private Hospital ICU as an extended site to Frankston Hospital ICU for training in Intensive Care Medicine.

As an ICU trainee, you will gain a broad range of experience in clinical adult Intensive Care Medicine with training in various critical care techniques and therapies including mechanical ventilation, non-invasive ventilation, fibreoptic bronchoscopy, and percutaneous tracheostomy. The unit has a part-time dedicated cardiac sonographer, whom primary role is to teach echocardiography. A number of our consultants are experienced in echocardiography and clinical ultrasound and are accredited to practice echocardiography and clinical ultrasound. Therefore you will be given a unique opportunity to learn a well-structured echocardiography and basic ultrasound imaging.

What You Need
•MBBS or equivalent
•Ability to work as an effective member of an inter disciplinary team
•Sound clinical knowledge, skills and experience in contemporary medical and evidence based practice
•Australian and New Zealand trained Medical Graduates: General Registration with AHPRA and who have completed a minimum of 4 years full time medical employment post registration and with least two (2) years in the Australian or New Zealand Hospital System and a minimum of 6 months experience in Critical Care Medicine
•International Medical Graduates: Limited/Provisional Registration with AHPRA (Successful completion of AMC MCQ Part 1 and Part 2) who has completed a minimum of 4 years full time medical employment post registration with least two (2) years in the Australian or New Zealand and a minimum of one year experience in Critical Care Medicine.
