About the Role

  • Reporting to the Service Director, Monash Intensive Care Service, the position has responsibility for the effective management and leadership of the Intensive Care Unit and the provision of services consistent with our Strategic and Clinical Services plans.

  • In collaboration with the Service Director, the incumbent will establish the organisational structure of the Unit and appoint medical staff in consultation with the Director Clinical Operations, Critical Care Services and Neurosciences.

  • As a member of the Monash Health Senior Management Team the appointee will provide leadership in achieving and upholding Monash Health’s Vision, Purpose and Values.

  • Lead and work within a multidisciplinary team including consultants, junior medical, nursing, allied health and administrative support staff.

  • Provide multi-disciplinary management and clinical leadership through active involvement in patient care and promotion of adherence to Monash Health Policies and Procedures.

  • Be available to medical colleagues for consultation and liaison as appropriate regarding the management of critically ill or injured patients and broader patient care.

  • In consultation with the Service Director, set the direction of the Unit in clinical care, education, research and quality and safety consistent with broader Intensive Care Services and Monash Health strategic direction and priorities.

  • Provide leadership support, appraisal and sound judgement for Senior and Junior Medical Staff within the Unit.

  • Develop initiatives and support the delivery of outstanding care and patient experience.

  • Support and promote academic research, education, training and supervision (both undergraduate and postgraduate) roles in the Intensive Care Unit, Monash Health.

  • Support the Intensive Care Unit’s outreach service.

  • Contribute to the professional and corporate life of Monash Health by participation in appropriate committees and forums.

  • Build and foster effective and collaborative relationships with other specialty units within Monash Health.

  • Contribute to ongoing service improvement and clinical and workforce innovation to ensure Monash Health provides high quality accessible Intensive Care Unit Services within allocated resources and meets the needs of Monash Health patients.

  • Comprehensive financial management of the Intensive Care Unit including preparation of budgets, identification of cost savings and monitoring to ensure budgetary targets and forecasts are achieved;

  • Support and enhance Intensive Care Outreach Services within Monash Health.

  • This is a Full time 38 hour week plus on-call as rostered

About You

To be successful within this role, you will have strong leadership and change management skills to implement and support new models of care that ensure streamlined and effective access to services, service delivery and co-ordinated care.

Have accountability for the effective management and leadership of Monash Health’s Intensive Care Units and the provision of Intensive care services across Monash Health consistent with Monash Health’s Strategic and Clinical Service plans.

You will establish the organisational structure of the Unit and appoint medical staff in consultation with key Site Operational stakeholders.

As a member of the Monash Health Senior Management Team you will provide leadership in achieving and upholding Monash Health’s Vision, Purpose and Values.

What you need:

  • Medical Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)

  • Appropriate health professional tertiary qualifications

  • Fellowship of the College of Intensive Care Medicine

  • Working with Children’s Certificate

  • Substantial relevant experience in intensive care services as a specialist in a major teaching hospital.

You much complete the Credentialing and Scope of Practice process prior to appointment and commencement.  This will be reviewed on a regular basis.

  • Current Drivers Licence

  • All candidates will require Australian working rights.

  • Satisfactory completion of a Police Check

  • Satisfactory completion of Working with Children Check
