Exciting opportunity for a university student to join a positive and supportive team in assisting the Office of Projects Victoria staff with scoping, planning, developing, and delivering initiatives relating to the delivery and oversight of the major project pipeline in Victoria.

About us

The Department of Treasury and Finance (DTF) provides economic, financial and resource management advice to help the Victorian Government deliver its policies. 

The Office of the Victorian Chief Engineer (VCE), which sits within the Office of Projects Victoria (OPV) plays a vital role in shaping the delivery of Victoria's infrastructure. We have two exciting opportunities to work at the centre of the Victorian Government during a critical time in the State's response to the coronavirus pandemic through significant investments in infrastructure. These roles provide the opportunity to further develop your project and contract management skills and offers exposure to major projects across the State.

About the roles – 24-week fixed term contracts (full and part time opportunities will be considered)

Join a positive and supportive team in assisting OPV staff with scoping, planning, developing, and delivering initiatives relating to the delivery and oversight of Victoria's major project pipeline. 

Under the guidance of a Senior Manager, you will contribute to initiatives and provide high quality policy advice to the VCE and other executives of OPV.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Scoping, developing and delivering key initiatives
  • Supporting experienced engineers or other technical experts in the review of major infrastructure projects, including the identification of project-specific or system-wide improvement opportunities 
  • Performing duties to support OPV initiatives, such as researching best practice, data analysis, contractor management and event coordination
  • Preparing, reviewing and advising on documentation, including executive briefs, technical reports, project design and development documentation and draft government policies
  • Engaging with and managing government and non-government stakeholders

About you

To be considered for this role, you must demonstrate the following:

  • Be enrolled in a degree relevant to major infrastructure project delivery
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office, and be prepared to learn new software as required
  • Strong comprehension, analysis and communication skills, allied with an ability to understand and respond to stakeholder needs and work effectively in a team environment
  • Well-developed time management skills with a keen eye for detail
  • A strong interest in major projects and infrastructure
  • Self-motivation and a positive can-do attitude
  • The ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
