The Department of Transport brings together all transport modes to design, plan, build and operate Victoria's transport system. Our job is to further integrate the transport network and improve the delivery of services to Victorians for simpler, quicker and safer journeys that connect people and places and support Victoria's prosperity and liveability. We are now delivering a $340 million programme of work over two years, to make it easier for people and freight to get around on our roads. The Coronavirus pandemic has dramatically altered the way Melburnians move around the city with more people now expected to use cars to get around. This investment will enable the Department of Transport to keep Melburnians moving during this time, and maintain a sustainable and resilient transport network into the future.

  • Annual Salary Range: $122,502-$163,934  per annum plus superannuation (this is the correct Salary as per the new EBA)

About the Opportunity

The intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) business area is looking for a technical leader to lead a team of ITS technical specialists focused on applying advanced specialist skills to coordinate the planning, development and implementation of  an innovative ITS platform to enable the transformation of the transport operations within the Department of Transport (DOT). This role will use effective systems and tools, including DOT Project Management procedures and frameworks, to achieve required outcomes that meet business needs and DOT objectives. The ITS Integration Specialist Lead is a senior leader of the division and is responsible for the provision of professional leadership to foster a collaborative and high performing culture that is focused on innovation, continuous improvement and improved ITS outcomes.

About You

  • Demonstrated ability and experience on successfully leading the delivery of significant ITS Systems following Software Development Life Cycle to drive successful outcomes of high-profile departmental projects and programs.
  • Ability and proven track record leading technical research activities to identify new concepts in measuring technology and managing the development of robust and innovative ITS systems.
  •  Advanced business analysis, problem-solving skills with sound traffic engineering knowledge to apply independent professional judgement to execute complex design duties where objectives may only partially define to generate a viable, innovative solution to address the identified problem.
  • Proven leadership capability to motivate, mentor, coach and develop a team of highly technical staff, fostering a high-performing culture that is focused on collaboration, continuous improvement and successful delivery of key project outcomes.
  • Proven ability to lead the planning, work scheduling and resource and contractor management matters relating to the development and delivery of significant departmental projects
