About Us

Department of Justice and Community Safety comprises of eight regions, through which compliance, enforcement and regulatory services are provided to the Victorian community.

The Loddon Mallee Region provides services at Justice Service Centres in Bendigo, Swan Hill, Echuca and Mildura and at outreach locations across the region, including Castlemaine, Maryborough, Kerang, Robinvale, Kyneton and Ouyen.  The region also has three prisons, two within the Loddon Prison Precinct which includes a medium risk facility (Loddon) and a restricted minimum facility (Middleton). The third prison is located at Maldon, a minimum risk women's facility; Tarrengower Prison.

About the Role

In the Loddon Mallee Region the Justice Officer role specialises in one of three streams – Human Resources, Finance, and Business Support. Over time, there may be an opportunity to work in one or more of these streams, on a rotational basis, enabling career development opportunities and operational flexibility to the region.  Appropriate support and training will be provided.

This position will require direct prisoner contact and may involve weekend and public holiday work, remuneration is in accordance with the applicable provision of the VPS Enterprise Agreement.

About You

As our ideal candidate, you will possess:

  • Well-developed computer literacy
  • Sound knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, procedures, guidelines and regulations
  • Demonstrated experience and/or understanding of working within a correctional environment
  • An ability to cooperate and work well with others in the pursuit of team goals, as well as sharing information and acknowledging the efforts of others. Also the ability to step in to help others where required
  • An ability to respond to a client's needs, and keep the client or stakeholder up to date with issues and developments. Also the ability to promptly follow through on inquiries, requests and complaints, and take responsibility for correcting problems promptly
  • An ability to seek the resolution of problems through policy or process guidelines. Where guidelines are unavailable, an ability to seek guidance by providing information and ideas relevant towards the resolution of a problem. Also the ability to understand concepts that enable improvements in critical thinking and problem solving
  • Advanced computer skills including effective use of various systems such as word processing, spreadsheets, email, appointment scheduling and internet is desirable.
