About us

The Metropolitan Remand Centre is a 954-bed maximum-security facility for unsentenced male offenders located within the West Metropolitan Region, Department of Justice.

At the Metropolitan Remand Centre (MRC), each Justice Officer role specialises in one of five streams – Records/Property, Human Resources, Stores/Canteen, Infrastructure/Technology/Finance and Administration. Over time, and with appropriate support and training, Justice Officers may be rotated between these streams to provide career enhancement opportunities to those staff, and operational flexibility to the prison.

About the role

Some of the key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Receive goods from external suppliers.
  • Pick and deliver goods to prison areas as required.
  • Inventory management for MRC stores warehouse.
  • Process prisoner shop orders
  • Manage prisoner shop inventory and usage levels
  • Supervision of prisoner billets in the prisoner shop

This position may require direct prisoner contact and may involve weekend and public holiday work, remunerated in accordance with the applicable provision of the VPS Determination.

About you

As our ideal candidate you will possess:

  • Well-developed computer literacy
  • Good knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, procedures, guidelines and regulations
  • Understanding of store and warehousing operations including associated stock management, delivery / service requirements and OH&S practices
  • Ability to consider the merits of new ideas and approaches and be willing to develop and apply new skills
  • Ability to seek resolution of problems through policy or process guidelines and seeks guidance by providing information and ideas relevant towards resolution of problem
  • Ability to understand customer requirements and how work addresses customer needs and identify opportunities to improve services
