About the Division

Assets and Engineering is a division of Network Design and Integration and is responsible for enabling DoT to effectively plan, deliver and maintain a safe, resilient and fit-for-purpose Victorian transport system through trusted, systematic and disciplined technical excellence.

About the opportunity

The Lead - Strategic Asset Management (Rail) position sits within the Rail Asset Management Branch of Transport Assets and forms part of a team that is responsible for providing the strategic foresight to the management of Victoria's rail asset base.

The incumbent builds links across the Department and transport portfolio, particularly Transport Services and the Accredited Rail Transport Operators, to develop an understanding of the performance of rail assets and emerging issues.

Position Outcomes

  • Strategic Asset Management –The Lead Officer Rail Strategic Management has supported the Senior Manager and Manager in the provision of sound strategic asset management for the rail system.
  • Asset Custodianship –The incumbent promoted the role of the Asset Custodian when working with Transport Services and by extension the Accredited Rail Transport Operators as the asset stewards.

  • Strategic Planning (Applied) – Ensures that day to day planning and work processes are in line with team/organisation strategy; Identifies and develops own and team objectives linking strategies to actions to achieve these; Guides others in strategic planning process.
  • Systems Thinking (Applied) – Assesses situations and identifies the best systems tools for analysing, understanding the system and addressing problems; Can apply system archetypes to identify common dynamics that appear in different situations; Identifies and understands the impact of particular courses of action on other parts of the organisation or more broadly.
