Selection Criteria

Role

 

The Role

  • Be responsible for implementing and managing all curriculum across the college
  • Be responsible for the leadership and management of Assessment and Reporting across the college
  • Collaboratively develop and maintain the college professional learning calendar
  • Work as part of the Teaching and Learning team and lead the PLC culture at the college
  • Lead the peer observation and student feedback process at the college
  • Develop the college assessment and reporting schedule
  • Ensure appropriate curriculum and pedagogical procedures are embedded into the professional practices of all teachers
  • Manage and ensure there is a Guaranteed & Viable Curriculum at HSSC that is documented and available to the college community online.
  • Take account of current education research on the ways to personalise the learning opportunities through curriculum to meet their unique learning needs of our students
  • Have high-level knowledge of ICT and the ways it can be used to enhance curriculum delivery, and be able to lead and implement programs. 
  • Use high-level knowledge of formative assessment and support the implementation of consistent formative assessment across classes and throughout the college. 
  • Be responsible for providing the existing umbrella structure to support the curriculum needs of students and staff
  • Will sit on the Learning Leaders team that is charged with the responsibility of being visionary and innovative in their leadership and will be comprised of the Domain Leaders & the leadership team
  • Be responsible for the effective leadership and management of the Domain Leaders and undertake other negotiated responsibilities as part of the school’s leadership team, including attending the Learning Leaders meetings and membership of the Leadership Team.
  • Work with the Domain Leaders to ensure that consistency across classes is achieved in curriculum delivery through moderation and appropriate assessment procedures.
  • Work with Transition and Pathways and Engagement teams to ensure the timely preparation of subject selection handbooks for students and staff.
  • Maintain a Curriculum Map for all subjects on delivery at HSSC from Years 10 to 12 and be able to articulate this via the website and information nights to the community.
  • Utilise Compass and ensure that Compass is at all times accurate for the delivery of the curriculum map as designed with the workforce plan
  • Utilise Google Drive and Google Sites and ensure that it is at all times accurate for the deliver of  the curriculum map as designed with the workforce plan
  • Ensure the college meets expectations and deadlines in relation to assessment and reporting such as Learning progression data to the department.
  • Lead and manage the PAT testing program for Year 10 students.
  • Lead information sessions for and staff
  • Develop and manage the implementation of policies related to curriculum
  • Take an active role in supporting and managing the performance of staff to improve the quality of teaching and learning, through mentoring, collegial interaction and critical reflection on practice, feedback and data.
  • Convene meetings of the Learning Leaders on a regular basis.
  • This role will work closely with the T&L team
  • Other duties as negotiated with the Principal

Responsibilities

In recognition of the importance of leadership and management combined with exemplary teaching practice for improved student learning outcomes, the key roles of the leading teachers may include but are not limited to:

  • Leading and managing the implementation of whole-school improvement initiatives related to the school strategic plan and school priorities
  • Leading and managing the implementation of whole-school improvement strategies related to curriculum planning and delivery;
  • Leading and managing the provision of professional development and developing individual and team development plans for teaching staff within the priorities of the school;
  • Leading and managing staff performance and development (review of staff);
  • Teaching demonstration lessons;
  • Leading and managing the development of the school's assessment and reporting policies and practices;
  • Leading and managing the implementation of the school operations and policies related to student welfare and discipline;
  • Leading the development of curriculum in a major learning area and participating in curriculum development in other areas;
  • Responsibility for general discipline matters beyond the management of classroom teachers;
  • Contributing to the overall leadership and management of the school;
  • Contributing to the development of proposals for school council consideration;
  • Developing and managing the school code of conduct.

Who May Apply

Teachers currently registered or eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching and qualified to teach and/or have demonstrated experience in the curriculum area(s) specified for the position.

VIT LANTITE

To be eligible for employment, transfer or promotion in the principal or teacher class a person must have provisional or full registration from the Victorian Institute of Teaching. In addition, from 3 August 2020, to be eligible for employment in the principal class or teacher class, a person who graduated from a Victorian Initial Teacher Education program after 1 July 2016, must demonstrate that they have passed the literacy and numeracy test for initial teacher education (LANTITE) requirements. This condition is satisfied where the LANTITE requirement is part of the Victorian Initial Teacher Education program completed by the person.

Homestead Senior Secondary College opened in 2020 and is located in a developing area of Point Cook, approximately 28 kilometres from Melbourne CBD.
