The Office of Public Prosecutions (OPP) is an independent statutory authority responsible for preparing and conducting criminal prosecutions in Victoria on behalf of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). Matters prosecuted by the DPP and the OPP involve serious crimes or matters that are of significance to the fair and effective operation of the Victorian criminal justice system. The OPP consists of the Solicitor for Public Prosecutions and a staff of approximately 400 providing legal and corporate support to the DPP, the Chief Crown Prosecutor and Crown Prosecutors in the exercise of their independent roles in the criminal justice system.
Legal Assistant – Policy and Specialised Legal (Fixed Term – up to 12 months, Part-time 3 days per week. Part-time working arrangement is negotiable)
The Office of Public Prosecutions (OPP) has an opportunity to join our organisation as a Legal Assistant within the Policy and Specialised Legal Division (PASL).
The PASL Unit plays an essential role in keeping the legal practice updated on the latest legislative developments and major law reform initiatives. It develops the Director's policies, provides considered responses to emerging issues and undertakes an array of specialist legal work.
The role of Legal Assistant is essential in providing administrative and legal support to the division. The role involves working closely and collaboratively with the administration team and solicitors within the division to ensure that operational requirements are met.
