This role reports to the Manager Collections and Technology Services and is for a full-time qualified Library Technician to predominantly undertake document supply duties, front-line client service delivery and collection management tasks

The Department of Government Services (DGS) was established on 1 January 2023 to improve everyone's experience of doing business and interacting with the Victorian government. We bring important day-to-day services together in one department to make things easy and seamless for Victorians and businesses. We are doing this by connecting and digitising our systems and platforms across state and local government as well as streamlining our corporate and procurement services.   

About the role 

This role reports to the Manager Collections and Technology Services and is for a full-time qualified Library Technician to predominantly undertake document supply duties, front-line client service delivery and collection management tasks. As a part of our hybrid working, this position is based 3 days a week in Werribee at our Knowledge Resource Centre, and the other 2 days from home or CBD location. This position involves assisting clients from the Victorian Public Sector to locate resources from our collection and other external library collections.

In it, you will:

1    Provide information and reference services to clients, with a focus on electronic delivery, document supply and utilising the VGLS print and electronic collections to support research requests.

2    Undertake rostered front-line client service delivery, including triaging client enquiries, responding to reference and research assistance and general library service assistance to all Victorian Public Sector clients in a timely and effective manner.

3    Contribute to the sourcing of interlibrary loans and document supply ensuring that service provision is accurate and delivered to agreed standards. Apply knowledge of Australian and international databases, interlibrary loan protocols and copyright legislation.

4    Contribute to collection development and collection maintenance, which may include active participation in library collection reviews, cataloguing and other relevant library tasks such as serial accessioning, shelving, and enabling electronic access to journals.

5    Demonstrate up-to-date knowledge of research tools, reference techniques and other relevant information sources to continually improve your ability to understand and satisfy the information needs of library clients.

6    Promote library services that are client focused, and support improvements to outcomes through the provision of information to Victorian Government staff.

7    Creatively solve problems within the area of responsibility and maintain a high degree of professional integrity.

8    Other library operations as directed by the Manager, Collections and Technology Services 

About you 

To be considered for the role, you must be able to demonstrate: 

1    Current experience and expertise in the delivery of contemporary library services, including a proven track record in responding to client needs and requests in a timely and effective manner. 

2    Experience with a contemporary integrated library management system is essential. SirsiDynix – Symphony library management system is preferrable.

3    Experience with using the Relais document delivery system, RefTracker, RefChatter and allocation of ISBNs is an advantage. 

4    Achievement orientation, with evidence of ability to commit to goals and achieve established outcomes while continually learning and developing professionally. 

5    Highly developed communication skills, including the ability to effectively liaise and negotiate with a broad range of internal and external clients. 

6    Flexibility in the workplace and an ability to be a positive team influence in a dynamic and changing work environment. 

7    Actively participate in and contribute to staff meetings and team development opportunities. 

8    Well-developed organisational skills including the ability to manage competing demands and to meet deadlines. 

9    The capability to work at various locations as needed. Note, the primary worksite for the role will be the Knowledge Resource Centre, 607 Sneydes Road, Werribee.
