Position Summary:

This position in the Water Unit sits within the Health Protection Branch of the Department of Health. The Water Unit aims to protect people from chemical and microbial hazards in water and seeks to improve the health of Victorians by administering the Safe Drinking Water Act 2003, the Health (Fluoridation) Act 1973, and provisions relating to aquatic facilities under the Public Health and Wellbeing Act 2008. The position leads a team within the Water Unit and has specific responsibilities for administration of the relevant provisions of the Public Health and Wellbeing Act 2008 and Health (Fluoridation) Act 1973 relating to protecting public health from water quality hazards. This role is also responsible for overseeing the department's strategic approach to managing water quality risks associated with aquatic facilities and other recreational water bodies, private drinking water supplies and harmful algal blooms and responding to water quality incidents and emergencies. This role is also responsible for overseeing the department's water fluoridation strategy.

The position provides project management expertise and advice on the development and review of regulation, policy, strategies and programs. It entails extensive collaboration with diverse partners, stakeholders and staff. It requires conceptual, planning, technical, negotiation and interpersonal skills, as well as highly developed skills in the design, management and evaluation of complex projects.
