The position of Manager, Economic Development forms a part of the Inner Metropolitan Melbourne branch within the Local Government and Suburban Development group.

The Manager, Economic Development provides high-level expert and strategic advice to senior management and Ministers on matters relating to the revitalisation and economic prosperity of inner metropolitan Melbourne, which covers the Local Government Areas of Melbourne, Yarra and Port Phillip. The position is a key leadership role within the Inner Metropolitan Melbourne Division in the Local Government and Suburban Development Group, reporting to the Regional Director, Inner Metropolitan Melbourne.

The Manager will be required to have significant financial and project management experience, as it oversees the administration and governance of two funds that are being co-funded and co-delivered by the Victorian government and the City of Melbourne, the $100m Melbourne City Recovery Fund and the $200m Melbourne City Revitalisation Fund. These two funds are focussed primarily on the CBD and surrounds and involve a combination of stimulus and strategic interventions relating to business support, city activation events and activities and public realm and infrastructure projects.  

The Inner Metropolitan Melbourne Division has been recently established, so the Manager must be able to contribute to establishing a team culture and building a team of staff who will have responsibility for analysing and understanding the key trends, issues, challenges and opportunities pertaining to the inner city. They will also work closely with a wide range of partners and stakeholders across government, the private sector and the community and have a deep knowledge of the key relationships, organisations and individuals that influence and shape the economic future of the inner city.  

The Manager will be expected to contribute to key policy and strategy reform projects and initiatives and high level policy and budget submissions that relate to the short-term economic recovery and longer-term revitalisation of inner metropolitan Melbourne. They will also work closely with the Inner Metropolitan Partnership, the Inner Metro Economy and Planning Working Group and other forums that have an inner metro regional economic focus.
