Lead and manage a team to deliver consistent, timely and high-quality policy advice and provide strategic direction for the development of a comprehensive legislative and regulatory framework for fire policy, integrated with forest policy.

The Manager, Fire Legislative & Regulatory Policy leads a team that develops and provides strategic advice on fire policy and its implementation using legislative and regulatory mechanisms. The position leads the development and delivery of complex reforms associated with the implementation of the government's responses to inquiries into the 2019/20 Bushfire season.

The position is responsible for ensuring effective and efficient implementation of the responses, playing a key role in supporting the Forest, Fire Operations Division and the Chief Fire Officer. It is a pivotal and senior relationship builder within the Department of Environment, Land, Water & Planning (DELWP), across the VPS, and more broadly across key sector partners, including the Department of Justice and Community Safety.

The Manager, Fire Legislative & Regulatory Policy is a member of the division's senior leadership team, contributing to the delivery of group and departmental priorities, and to building an inclusive and high performing workforce that is customer focused, collaborative, professional and engaged. The position strives to achieve excellence, efficiency and builds a high performing culture.

Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualification(s) in public policy, law, natural resource or environmental management or similar is desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement policy frameworks and processes aligned to government and statutory requirements that deliver agreed outcomes is desirable.

This is a fixed term position available until 29 April 2022.
