We have a remarkable opportunity for an experienced Government and Stakeholder Relations professional to join VMIA. This is a maximum term 12 months (parental leave cover).

Your role

We have a remarkable opportunity for an experienced Government and Stakeholder Relations professional to join the Government and Stakeholder Relations (G&SR) team within the Business Operations division.

The G&SR team ensures our minister, the Assistant Treasurer, and our portfolio department, the Department of Treasury and Finance (DTF) are informed, have confidence in and act as advocates for VMIA.

With a finely tuned ability to identify issues the Minister or DTF need to be across, you work confidently and proactively with VMIA subject matter experts and leaders to obtain, understand, analyse, and develop advice for the Minister and DTF.

You're a skilled brief and report writer, and your in-depth understanding of Government enables you to navigate and teach others about the environment that we operate in. You ensure VMIA's interaction with Government is consistent, timely, accurate and has maximum impact. You anticipate issues, proactively manage them, and enjoy rolling up your sleeves to get things done.

This role reports to the Head of Government and Stakeholder Relations in the Business Operations division.

Key responsibilities

You are accountable for managing the development and the delivery of timely and accurate:

  • Ministerial Briefings,
  • Possible Parliamentary Questions,
  • Public Accounts and Estimates Committee briefings,
  • Briefings to DTF, and
  • Other obligations prescribed in DTF's Corporate Planning and Performance Reporting Requirements.

This is a small team, essential to its success is the ability to pitch in and get things done. You have a can-do attitude.

Who you work with

In a collaborative team environment, you work:

  • Closely with the Head of Government and Stakeholder Relations to deliver organisation-wide government relations advice and to manage VMIA's relationship with the Minister and DTF.
  • With your network across VMIA to gain input, understanding and content.
  • With the Minister's Office and DTF to obtain information and feedback from them and to ensure they are fully briefed on relevant matters.

About you

We're looking for someone who has:

  • Experience in working in a government environment and Ministerial Offices and/or central agencies
  • Experience in writing Ministerial and departmental briefs that are timely, accurate and meet the audience's requirements
  • A tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline (for example, public administration, finance, business, law, insurance, or commerce)
  • Strong attention detail to produce high quality, accurate material
  • Highly developed verbal and written communication skills
  • Outstanding relationship and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Drive to deliver exceptional organisation-wide government relations advice
  • An ability to work in a team and is willing to roll-up your sleeves to pick up additional tasks and activities to meet business outcomes
  • Strong experience in dealing with senior stakeholders across government and is confident to press-on, ask questions and seek clarity when you need additional information
  • A positive, can-do attitude and ability to work flexibly and under pressure noting that when our senior stakeholders require information, they often need it urgently.
