About the Paediatric Emergency Psychiatric Service (P-EPS)

The P-EPS is a new initiative for the dedicated mental health assessment of children and adolescents and is the first of its kind outside of the Royal Children's hospital in the State of Victoria. It is designed to provide timely and dedicated assessment of children and adolescents within the new Children's Emergency Department thereby providing a more conducive environment for complex presentations within a bio-psychosocial model. This service will be phased in and is expected to be fully operational by mid 2023 when it is expected that it will operate as a 24/7 service.

The service will comprise a multi-disciplinary team from within the Early in Life Mental Health Service Program (ELMHS) including Lived Experience staff and will have synergies with all other ELMHS sub-programs and the inpatient unit.

About the Role

The role of the P-EPS Manager is to provide operational oversight for the staff of this new team and ensure that a timely dedicated service is provided to presenting Child and Adolescents, their families and/or carers. The role will also involve establishing a close working liaison with the larger Children's Emergency Department Team and the Mental Health Program more generally.

In establishing the team the Manger will lead the recruitment of the team in conjunction with the Community Services Manager to whom they will directly report.

More broadly the Manger will ensure that Monash Health's iCARE values underpin the philosophy of this new team and that it functions in a professional and responsive manner for betterment of patients and families who present for Mental Health assessment.

About You
The successful applicant for the Manager's role will preferably be highly experienced in the Child and Adolescent Mental Health and may come from a number of disciplines currently operating within the Mental Health Program. They should have strong values about the central role of the lived experience workforce, wellbeing support, and co-design in mental health service development and delivery.  They should have strong values about inclusion and diversity with excellent communication and interpersonal skills and a person centred focus, emphasising choice and flexibility. They are expected to be enthusiastic, compassionate & able to work collaboratively, able to prioritise and meet deadlines. Be autonomous in work organization and time management. Be adept in problem solving and is a solution focused person.
