The Corporate Planning and Risk team has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Manager, Risk and Compliance to join its team on a 12-month, fixed term contract.

The Corporate Planning and Risk team sits within the Corporate Delivery Services Group and the Corporate Performance team. The Group takes responsibility for driving strategies in the areas of governance, planning, risk and compliance management, people management, planning and development practices, organisational culture, knowledge management, Cabinet processes, stakeholder engagement and improving quality, and ICT.

About the role

The Corporate Planning and Risk team has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Manager, Risk and Compliance to join its team on a 12-month, fixed term contract.

Key accountabilities:

  • Provide leadership to the risk management function through driving a program of works to define risk management practices in the Department, revisiting the DTF Risk Management Strategy and related reform activities, and maturing the risk management function at DTF.
  • Provide high level advice on the application of risk management practices and frameworks, including DTF's risk appetite and tolerance statement, to embed the use of risk to inform decision making.
  • Lead proactive consultation with key stakeholders, develop, maintain and enhance risk management registers, including tracking of risks and controls to ensure their active governance and to meet relevant compliance requirements.
  • Oversight the delivery of internal audit recommendations related to risk and compliance, including leading a process to review and operationalise the DTF Compliance Management Framework and related monitoring and reporting activities.
  • Provide support and strategic advice to the Department's Audit and Risk Committee and internal audit executive
  • Provide timely strategic advice to key stakeholders, regarding risk and compliance
  • Research and prepare briefing papers, reports, project plans and correspondence

 

About you

To be considered for this role, you must demonstrate the following:

  • High level understanding of risk management and compliance requirements within a public sector context
  • Demonstrated leadership in identifying risks with the ability to communicate risks to others and assist staff in the identification of those risks, their impact and management
  • Demonstrated ability to collect and analyse both qualitative and quantitative data, ensure its accuracy, and to synthesise that data into key messages and recommendations.
  • Ability to understand new subject matter quickly, consider policy and financial implications, and synthesis into accurate, timely and audience-appropriate advice.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide leadership to ensure agreed timelines for delivery of projects and services are met
  • Demonstrated ability to use specialist knowledge to research, think critically and to question information provided
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, supported by strong stakeholder management abilities, including the demonstrated ability to provide authoritative advice.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills – demonstrated ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with key internal and external stakeholders (at varying levels of seniority).
