The position of Manager Transition forms a part of the Rural and Regional Policy and Strategy branch within the Rural and Regional Victoria group.  The Regional Policy and Strategy Branch provides policy and strategy leadership, coordinating across government to develop the evidence base, ideas, knowledge, policies and programs that support the Victorian Government's commitment to rural and regional Victoria. The group delivers research and analysis to support regional policy, and manages strategic relationships across and outside government, including with the Regional Partnerships.

Reporting to the Special Advisor, Regional Development and Transition, the key accountabilities of the role are:

  • Provide authoritative advice and briefings on rural and regional economic recovery, economic diversification, and industry transition issues.
  • Identify new and emerging strategic issues affecting Victoria's regions.
  • Manage economic and industry related policy development and research tasks.
  • Develop and maintain links and effective working relationships.
  • Lead and manage a small team of policy advisers or project team.
  • Initiate, manage and maintain close liaison and effective relationships.

This position is well suited to highly motivated professionals with a strong track record in economics, industry development, policy research, business development and/or statistical analysis. The successful applicant will have: proven success in developing strategic advice and leading change on complex and cross-cutting economic issues; be comfortable working on new and diverse issues with uncertain information; excellent analytical and conceptual skills; strong communication and stakeholder management skills; and demonstrated project management skills. Familiarity with statistical analysis and experience in managing tasks and projects to tight deadlines is highly desirable.
