Position Summary: 

The COVID Vaccination program is responsible for managing and coordinating the roll-out of COVID-19 vaccination to the state of Victoria. Operating as a dynamic multi-disciplinary team, the group will work closely with key internal and external stakeholders to deliver an effective and efficient immunisation campaign.

The Manager of Vaccine Safety Policy will be responsible for managing the translation of safety signals and data into policy positions for the program.  The role will work closely with other teams within the Unit to identify and support services required to stand up and operate the Victorian vaccine rollout. The role will also work to oversee the development and maintenance of clinical guidelines and act as an interface between the vaccine safety teams and the communications teams to ensure that clinical information and policy advice is appropriate for its target audience.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain relationships with key internal and external stakeholders and provide relevant information and strategic advice about vaccine safety policy.
  • Prepare and oversee the preparation of policy advice and recommendations to internal and external stakeholders, including executive management, stakeholders and Ministerial offices, conveying complex concepts and information.
  • Manage a small team of 3-5 staff members in a manner consistent with DHHS values.
  • Be able to work in a fast-paced environment, with short lead times for high quality written briefings.
  • Review and report on high priority issues, risks and trends and prepare and present comprehensive reports, ministerial briefs and cabinet and agency submissions on complex issues.
  • Pro-actively build and maintain effective working relationships and facilitate the flow of information across the department and with key external stakeholders.
  • Maintain an understanding of Commonwealth and State legislative and policy reform directions to influence policy development.
  • Represent the department on key stakeholder committees and groups concerned with achieving government and departmental objectives, lead relevant committee and governance processes.
  • Keep accurate and complete records of your work activities in accordance with legislative requirements and the department's records, information security and privacy policies and requirements.
  • Take reasonable care for your own health and safety and for that of others in the workplace by working in accordance with legislative requirements and the department's occupational health and safety (OHS) policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate how the actions and outcomes of this role and work unit impact clients and the department's ability to deliver, or facilitate the delivery of, effective support and services.
  • Provide leadership and guidance based on advanced expertise.
  • Contribute advanced expertise and knowledge to benefit strategic planning and organisation/sector-wide outcomes.
  • Respond productively to deliver solutions and outcomes in an organisational environment complicated by scale, heterogeneity and complexity.
