LEVEL CROSSING REMOVAL PROJECT

About the role

LXRP's Commercial and Legal team continue to grow and drive successful outcomes and as a result we have a brand new opportunity as the Managing Principal Lawyer (Land & Property Specialist) on offer. Reporting into the Director, Legal, you will be responsible for providing expert legal, commercial and risk management advice specific to land and property matters across all of the Level Crossing Removal Project. On any given day you may find yourself:

  • Utilising relevant transport legislation and government polices as you provide guidance on key land and property matters such as land use, acquisitions and transactions, as well as the application and interpretation of delivery powers.
  • Managing and coordinating the project's external legal advisers and a small number of junior resources.
  • Providing advice on legal and risk management to our construction projects and partners.
  • Developing and drafting contractual documentation, project correspondence, briefs and approval documents.
  • Building and maintaining strong working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, in particular with the Land & Property Operations Manager and Land & Property Business Improvement Manager.

This is a 3-year fixed term position, paying a salary between $173,134 and $235,465 + superannuation. LXRP fully supports the new hybrid way of life and envision this role as a weekly blend of CBD office and working from home. We strive for the perfect work/life balance, welcoming 0.8FTE for those looking for a part-time opportunity.

About you

You will have prior experience providing quality land and property specific legal advice within a transport or major infrastructure environment. You'll be confident in your legislative knowledge, with exposure to complex rights of access, rights to perform works and rights to purchase land experience.

Furthermore, you're a professional problem solver – you're able to tackle a task autonomously, whilst contributing to the overall team and department goals. You are someone that will take it upon themselves to meet new people, build your network, and foster ongoing relationships with key stakeholders. Some key technical aspects of your experience that we are looking for are listed below:

  • Admitted, or eligible to be admitted, as a legal practitioner to the Supreme Court of Victoria or similar within Australia
  • Proven experience utilising relevant legislation such as the Major Transport Projects Facilitation Act 2009, Land Acquisition and Compensation Act 2010, Transport Integration Act 2010 and more.
  • Sound knowledge of current and emerging best practice in the land and property transactions and legal fields
  • Demonstrated practical knowledge and understanding of the Victorian transport sector, Government's policy objectives and transport strategies, as well as Government procurement and probity requirements.

About LXRP

At LXRP, we're not just removing level crossings, we are removing barriers and creating legacies for our communities for years to come. Inclusion is a priority for us and we are committed to creating an employee community that reflects those in which we work.

  • We value our role as leaders to actively increase female representation in the transport sector through practical support, professional development and exposure to career opportunities.
  • We are proud leaders and participants of internship programs that provide opportunities to people who identify as LGBTIQ, people living with a disability, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, refugees or asylum seekers or people from low socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • We offer and encourage flexible work practices and purchased leave arrangements for all of our employees to support wellbeing, family or carer commitments or other personal circumstances.
  • We place great importance on growth, empowering our people to enhance their knowledge, capability and experience through continual learning, formal training and lessons learned.
  • Health, safety and wellbeing are at the heart of what we do. We focus on the physical, mental and emotional wellbeing of our people to create a safe and healthy workplace for everyone, every day, everywhere.
