The position of Mediation Assistant forms a part of the Victorian Small Business Commission.

The VSBC is an independent government agency. We are here to advocate on issues affecting small business, raise awareness of their rights and responsibilities, and help them to avoid or resolve disputes. We aim to ensure a fair and competitive environment in which small businesses can grow and thrive.

Reporting to the Senior Mediation Officer, the key accountabilities of the role are:

  • Working remotely, arrange mediations and assist in managing the mediation calendar;
  • Liaise with mediation parties and mediators in relation to mediation arrangements and advise stakeholders on the operations of the mediation service;
  • Maintain efficient use of the mediation facilities;
  • Post-remote working, if required, set up the mediation rooms and equipment before each mediation and providing administrative assistance to the parties and the mediator during mediations;
  • Arrange for the collection of mediation fees prior to and on the day of mediation;
  • Assist in maintaining mediator lists, and regional/external mediation venue lists;
  • Provide assistance to the dispute resolution services team by managing a range of disputes referred to the Commission;
  • Work within a team and contribute to other administrative duties within the Commission.

To be successful in this role, you will have good interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to organise work efficiently and to operate effectively in an environment characterised by short and often conflicting timeframes.  If you possess significant knowledge and experience in general office procedures and activities along with demonstrated experience in arranging mediations, then this could be the position for you.
