Coronial Admissions and Enquiries (CAE) provides a 24-hour service that is the first point of contact for coronial and forensic pathology processes, and supports the initial phase of the Coroner's investigation into deaths, including:

• receiving reports of death and admitting and releasing deceased persons
• supporting Coroners in fulfilling their statutory responsibilities including establishment of identity of the deceased and cause of death
• coordinating forensic medical examinations and collating other investigative material required by Coroners and Pathologists
• providing authorised information and advice to bereaved families.

The Medical Liaison Nurse applies medical knowledge and quality case management expertise to ensure streamlined coordination of the initial stages of the coronial death investigation, and works to critical and inflexible deadlines, whilst dealing with difficult and complex situations in a calm and responsive manner.

This full-time position is part of a multidisciplinary team, participating in shiftwork on a seven day a week roster. Part-time applications also considered.

Responsibilities include:

• Coordinating and managing the initial stages of investigation of deaths reported to the Coroner in collaboration with other team members
• Gathering, evaluating and interpreting health and medical information related to deceased persons as a part of the medical investigation
• Liaising with internal and external stakeholders such as families, pathologists, mortuary, tissue bank and coronial staff in relation to cases management and tissue donation.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• Demonstrated post-graduate experience in an acute clinical setting
• Demonstrated ability to receive and interpret medical information, and communicate complex medical information into plain language to next of kin, families and other non-medical people
• Experience working in an environment that requires strict adherence to procedures and protocols including in relation to records management, confidentiality and privacy
• Strong service focus and ability to work collaboratively and calmly in a challenging and sensitive work environment with competing priorities and inflexible deadlines.
• Advanced communication skills to liaise effectively with stakeholders, such as bereaved family members, and law enforcement, legal and medical professionals

Shift requirements

• Ability to participate in a rotating 24 hour rotating shift roster (including day, afternoon, night shift and weekends)

Qualifications/Registration

• APHRA Registration (RN)
• Critical Care qualification (desirable)
