Outstanding candidates are encouraged to apply for positions now open at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre – a place where our normal days are extraordinary; as are the people we care for.

Peter Mac is one of a handful of integrated cancer research, education and treatment centres in the world. Each day our team strives to provide the very best in cancer care, even better treatments and potential cancer cures for all people affected by cancer.

Globally, we are facing one of the most pivotal times in the pursuit of cancer cures, and Peter Mac stands at its forefront. Together, we aim to lead a new era of cancer prevention, care and discovery, supported by state-of-the-art facilities at our new home within the Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre building.

Your role in our future.

Peter Mac boasts a comprehensive range of imaging, planning and treatment equipment distributed across five sites, four city and one regional. This includes CT scanners with 4D imaging capability, PET-CT scanners, 16 linear accelerators, many of which are equipped with kilo-voltage imaging (including cone beam CT).

The Physical Sciences department at Peter Mac comprises a group of 33 medical physicists (6 in training) and 4 biomedical engineers. The department’s primary role is to provide support for Peter Mac’s radiotherapy services. This includes commissioning and quality assurance of equipment, radiation safety, clinical dosimetry, and planning of specialized treatments such as brachytherapy, stereotactic therapy, whole body irradiation and IMRT. There are many opportunities for clinically relevant research and development. Current multidisciplinary research projects are primarily focused on the clinical introduction of new imaging and treatment techniques.

Currently, we have an opportunity to employ a Radiation Oncology Medical Physicist (ROMP) to work at our Melbourne site. Applicants are required to have a post-graduate qualification in medical physics. Applicants are also expected to have completed all requirements to fulfil ROMP certification. Preference will be given to candidates on the ACPSEM register. This position will require some out-of-hours duties, which may include weekend work. Flexibility to work at other Peter Mac campuses is also required.

Applicants will be appointed to the position of Medical Physicist, Grade 3.
