Your new team

The Victorian Infectious Diseases Reference Laboratory (VIDRL) is a leading Australian infectious diseases reference laboratory located in Melbourne, Victoria. VIDRL is part of the Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity (the Doherty). VIDRL provides the Victorian Department of Health with virology and Mycobacterial public health reference laboratory services, including surveillance, outbreak investigations, reference testing and research. VIDRL also performs diagnostic testing, mainly in virology, for Victorian hospitals.

  • You will help us achieve  public health testing capacity for Victoria’s department of health, tertiary hospitals as well national and regional public health initiatives

  • In return, you will be supported to drive quality improvement activities, including new approaches to COVID 19 testing.

Your opportunity

  • Provide strategic and operational leadership to VIDRLs quality improvement team

  • Ensure VIDRL complies with all relevant NPAAC, RCPA, ACHS and NATA standards, and is engaged in a continuous improvement process for the laboratory, including ‘closing the loop’ on relevant quality improvement activities

  • Initiate Quality Incident and Risk Management Plans

  • Develop a quality risk based framework for performing POC testing including all necessary documentation, establish a risk based framework and control measures to mitigate these risks

  • Implement and maintain a system of quality and reliability testing across the organisation

Your Contribution

  • You have an understanding of regulatory compliance standards for clinical pathology

  • To be successful you should have excellent communication skills, with strong observational analytical and problem solving skills
