 Canterbury Road Community Care Unit

 The Canterbury Road Community Care Unit in Camberwell is part of Eastern Health’s Adult Mental Health Program. It is a 20 bed community based residential facility and features a highly structured and supportive physical environment. The clinicians within the multi-disciplinary team have high levels of contact and interaction with consumers who are recovering from a mental illness and their carers to promote self-determination and aims to empower individuals.

The unit operates under a recovery-oriented model of care, utilising the framework for recovery-oriented practice in a collaborative, team based environment. The unit’s program offers a consumer-centred treatment approach to assist consumers in achieving their personal recovery goals and maintain wellness.

 About the Role

This is a fantastic opportunity to work full time in a community care unit which works with a strong recovery focus. The successful applicant will join the welcoming and friendly team at Canterbury Road Community Care Unit, who are passionate about providing an accessible high quality service to the diverse community we serve:

• Provide high quality social work, mental health assessments, treatment and consultation services and advice to consumers and carers and team members.

• Provide recovery orientated case management services using the Collaborative Recovery Model to assist consumers in the development of their personal, domestic and community daily living skills.


• Provide specialist social work knowledge and skills to the multidisciplinary team and give advice to CCU staff on specialist social work outcomes and strategies including SW specific assessments.


• To provide group work and 1:1 individual activity that will provide opportunities for skill acquisition and generalization of skill sets developed through participation in the module training program.


• Provide clinical leadership, training and supervision for junior staff and as required undertake training and provide preceptorship to social work students.

 About You:

 To be successful in this role you should possess:

•  A degree qualification in social work that has been approved by the Australian Association of Social Workers for membership as a social worker.

• Demonstrated at least one year’s post graduate experience working as a fully registered social worker in mental health.


• Demonstrated      ability in the delivery and evaluation of a range of high quality social      work services to consumers, families and carers within a mental health      setting.


• Experience      with the case management of consumers with a mental illness including      skills in assessment, crisis intervention, counselling, relapse prevention      and recovery orientated interventions.

• Well-developed interpersonal skills.


• Demonstrated advanced verbal and written      communication skills in all professional domains of practice.


• Ability to work as part of a diverse team and      autonomously.


• Strong commitment to high      quality consumer care.


• You must hold a valid full driver’s license.


• A satisfactory police check is required prior      to appointment.
