An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced midwife unit manager to become the Midwifery Group Practice/Homebirth Unit Manager within the Joan Kirner Women's and Children's Service at Western Health. The Midwifery Group Practice/Homebirth Unit Manager will provide expertise and leadership in midwifery practice underpinned by current evidence and research to the Midwifery Group Practice team within the Women's and Children's Division.

As a leader of the midwifery team the Midwifery Group Practice/Homebirth Unit Manager is at the forefront of the provision of high quality midwifery care to the women within the multidisciplinary environment through effective leadership of all midwives, management of all midwives and other resources, and the development of partnerships with all the discipliners working within the team.

The Unit Manager fulfils key accountabilities for the team/unit, including the development of the clinical area business plan linking in with the Divisional Business plan. These accountabilities encompass the coordination and the management of the daily operations of the clinical area, activity and access of bed/service utilisation, budget, safety and quality, facilities and equipment, staff recruitment and retention, workforce KPIs such as personal leave, annual leave and performance development/management, coordination of staff development programs and management of designated portfolios.

The Unit Manager must demonstrate management expertise, act as a mentor and a role model, and facilitate the development of clinical and management skills in all staff placed under their responsibility. The Midwifery Group Practice/Homebirth Unit Manager will provide input and participate in the process related to strategic and organisational planning for the provision of Maternity Services within Women's and Children's Division, underpinned by a strong professional background and evidence based practice. This position will foster a culture of inclusiveness, flexibility, accountability and innovation. Participation in appropriate forums will be undertaken to improve and disseminate knowledge and experience.
