MILLER HOUSE ACTIVITY VOLUNTEER
Colac Area Health currently has an opportunity for Volunteers to join our program in serving the community.
AIM:
To provide support for activities that are focused on wellness and enablement, encouraging participation and development of capacity in a range of areas to promote independence and social interaction. To encourage participants to maintain independence at home and in the community.
The Social Support Program offers safe and friendly activities including outings to enable a sense of self-esteem, belonging and companionship. The delivery of planned respite activities allows carers to take a break from their usual caring responsibilities.

DUTIES
1. Practice good hand hygiene and social distancing where possible.
2. Sign in and out of the volunteer activity register.
3. Privacy and confidentiality of participant’s information are of utmost importance please respect all you are involved with - staff, family and participants.
4. Provide support to participants with a caring and positive attitude.
5. To be able to be engaging and friendly to participants.
6. To be able to facilitate activities and if needed run the activities in a group or one on one as directed and supported by staff.
7. To be able to keep participants engaged in a group setting or one on one.
8. To be able to assist staff in accordance with staff instruction.
9. Assist with, cleaning up and putting away resources.
10. Opportunity to help maintain Miller House garden under direction of staff and abiding with OH&S policies.
11. Ensure that you engage in behaviour that treats other staff and participants fairly, equitably and not subject to any form of discrimination or harassment. Adherence to the CAH Code of Conduct.
12. Be respectful and be non-judgemental of participant’s choices.
13. To be pleasant to others and mindful around the areas of aging and independence.
14. Reporting of any concerns or OH&S issues immediately to the Coordinator.
15. The following is not your responsibility:-
- Push participants in wheelchairs
- Provide personal care
- Answer the doors and screen visitors
- Handle money
Preferred Experience/Attributes
• Experience in Social Groups.
• To be a ‘people person’ who can engage well with others.
• To be able to take direction and complete tasks
• Good communication skills
• Experience in Aged Care.

The successful applicant will be required to undertake a Victorian Police Check and complete a Statutory Declaration as per the Aged Care Principles prior to commencement of Volunteering. Some positions will also require a WWC Check.
